WHAT IS DBT?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy DBT® is a clinical approach created by Dr. Marsha Linehan to treat individuals with borderline personality disorder.  DBT has also been demonstrated to be effective for numerous groups of patients suffering from severe emotional pain and complex behavioral disorders.  You may benefit from DBT if you struggle with chaotic relationships, impulsive behaviors in response to stress, severe mood swings and confusion about the self.  Research has shown that DBT reduces suicidal behavior, psychiatric hospitalizations and treatment dropout. DBT has been adapted for individuals suffering from PTSD, Eating Disorders, and Substance Abuse.  DBT combines Cognitive Behavior Therapy with Eastern philosophies of Mindfulness and is delivered in an environment which is validating and promotes change.  DBT helps patients to build a life worth living.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy is comprised of individual therapy, group skills training, telephone coaching and clinical therapeutic consultation.

Dr. Bauer and colleagues co-founded DBT NOLA to provide individual therapy and skills training to adolescents, young adults and adults in the New Orleans area.  Dr. Bauer is the first clinician in Louisiana to be certified by the DBT- Linehan Board of Certification.  Participation in DBT requires a 6 month commitment.  Individuals must participate in all components of treatment.
